The department announced on Friday, May 31, that the rescue happened over Memorial Day weekend in Yonkers. Officers from the Yonkers Police Marine Unit pulled a jetskier from the Hudson River.

According to the department, the events leading up to the rescue began when the man tied his jet ski to his friend's jet ski.

At this point, his friend accidentally accelerated, ripping off the handlebars, controls, and storage hatch.

The man's jet ski then overturned and he fell into the river. Luckily though, officers were nearby and brought the man onboard their boat before towing his damaged jet ski back to the marina.

The man was found to be safe and sound, but police warned that he could have suffered severe injuries in the process.

The department posted on social media, "Please be safe and smart out there on the water. We'll be there if you need us!"
